Is it not mandatory for motorcycles to have hazard lights? What is the meaning of hazard lights?

When riders receive the right of way on the road, many of them use their hazard lights as a way of saying 'thank you.' This use of hazard lights to express gratitude is sometimes referred to as the 'thank you hazard,' and it has become a conventional practice for many drivers. Now, while all car models come equipped with hazard lights, some motorcycle models may not have them." When a rider receives the right of way on the road, they may often use their hazard lights to convey a message of 'thank you.' This use of hazard lights to express gratitude is sometimes called a 'thank you hazard,' and it has become a customary practice for many drivers.

In the case of cars, all models are equipped with hazard lights, but with motorcycles, some models do not have them. The hazard light is formally called the 'emergency flasher,' and the safety regulations for road transport vehicles stipulate the installation of hazard lights on motorcycles as follows: Automobiles must be equipped with emergency flashers. In some country however, two-wheeled motor vehicles, sidecar-equipped two-wheeled motor vehicles, light motor vehicles with caterpillar tracks or sleds, large special motor vehicles, automobiles with a width of less than 0.8 meters, and automobiles with a maximum speed of less than 40 kilometers per hour, as well as trailers towed by these vehicles, are exempt from this requirement.

In other words, while cars are required to have hazard lights, motorcycles are not. As a result, there are motorcycles that are equipped with hazard lights and those that are not. However, in this case, "automobile" is defined as "excluding large-sized motorcycles, ordinary motorcycles, and small-sized special-use motor vehicles," and motorcycles are not included. However, it is not completely free to use hazard lights on motorcycles. Strictly speaking, there are no prescribed usage rules, but as the name "emergency flasher" implies, it is better to use them in emergencies to alert others of your presence, just like with cars.

While it may be tempting to use hazard lights as a communication tool to say "thank you," it's important to understand that hazard lights are meant for emergency situations and it's best to avoid using them unnecessarily. Although motorcycles are not legally required to have hazard lights installed, some models do have them for safety reasons. Like with cars, it's a good idea to use them when stopped or in case of an emergency.

Why are large motorcycles often equipped with hazard lights?

Large-displacement motorcycles are more likely to be equipped with hazards, and this is thought to be related to factors such as the ability to ride on highways. If a motorcycle breaks down while traveling on a highway, it must stop on the shoulder and wait for assistance, such as a tow truck. Of course, cars are driving at high speeds on the highway, and if they were to collide with a stationary motorcycle, it could lead to further damage.

As mentioned earlier, hazards have the effect of making the presence of the vehicle known to those around it, so using hazards in such emergencies is effective. In the first place, motorcycles with a total displacement of less than 125cc cannot travel on highways. This is one of the reasons why hazards are installed on motorcycles with a certain level of displacement, as they are also anticipating highway driving.

"Thank-you honking" can also be a problem, so be careful!

By the way, some people may use a short beep of the horn to express their gratitude. Horns, which are formally called "audible warning devices," are installed on all cars and motorcycles, but are there any rules on how to use them? Most country, drivers of vehicles are required to use their audible warning device when required by law, but are not allowed to use it otherwise except when necessary to prevent danger. Two situations where it is required to use the horn are specified as follows: When proceeding through a location designated by road signs, such as an intersection, a corner where visibility is limited, or the top of an incline where visibility is limited, where it is difficult to see left and right. When proceeding through a designated section of a winding road, such as in a mountainous area, where visibility is limited at an intersection, a corner where visibility is limited, or the top of an incline where visibility is limited.

In other words, using the horn to say "thank you" is likely to be considered a violation of the law. As with hazards, be aware of how to use it and be careful not to use it incorrectly.
